General Description
Mount, Telescope: M23, is used with Telescope, Elbow: M16A1C or M16A1D on Carriage Howitzer: M2A2, for Cannon, 105mm Howitzer: M2A2. This mount is for laying the piece in elevation for direct fire. The support performs two functions: it is the means by which the mount is attached in the using position onto the right side of the howitzer and is also the elevation worm gear by which the mount is moved in elevation. This mount has provision for threading to a range quadrant. The threaded end of the mount is for assembly to the mounting bracket of Quadrant, Fire Control: range, M4A1 or Mount, Telescope: M50. The housing contains the elevation adjusting worm and forms the mount for the rotating bracket which holds the telescope. The mounting bracket supports the mount. The elbow telescope is held by the telescope holder. Light, Instrument: M36 is used with the mount for night operation.
